Michael started their mental health work while studying Psychology at UPenn. Throughout their undergraduate experience, Michael volunteered as peer support, staffing a late-night hotline for students in distress.
Hofstra University’s PhD Program in Clinical Psychology provided training in state-of-the-art evidence-based assessment and psychotherapeutic treatment approaches.

At Nassau University Medical Center, Michael worked with inpatient & outpatient teens who struggled primarily with depression & suicidality. The teens were often LGBTQ and came from unstable and critical families. It was rewarding to help these young people find safety.
Student Counseling at Hofstra University provides individual and group counseling, as well as on-call services during crisis. Michael was a member of the on-call team for four years because they enjoy helping people in urgent distress. Of note, they also led Social Anxiety group therapy and a Queer support group.

Child & Parent Psychotherapy Services
Treatment of Anger & Aggression
Initially trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Michael learned to help families that struggled with understanding their child’s intense moods. Michael expanded out to work with young people who experienced phobias, OCD, and difficulties with social interaction.
Anger is an emotion that many of us don’t want to talk about. At the Institute for the Treatment of Anger and Aggression, Michael worked with self-referred and probation-referred individuals who wanted to understand their anger and channel it effectively.

As a member of Penn State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services, Michael championed efforts to educate university staff about LGBTQ care, and coordinated efforts to enhance Transgender physical and mental healthcare.
